PERFORMANCE UPDATE (9.27.2023)
"Due to an episode of endometriosis that has left me too weak to dance, I cannot perform this weekend - doctor’s orders. I am choosing to be specific about my reason in order to highlight a chronic condition that affects at least 1 in 10 women and yet goes largely ignored or is poorly treated.
Luckily, there are three incredible flamenco artists performing this weekend. Cristian Puig (song/guitar), Marilia Quevedo (dance), and Behzad Habibzai (percussion) will no doubt bring the house down. Truly, we are so very lucky to have them here to perform for us.
How can you best support me and them? Purchase tickets and come to the show… Show up in support of their artistry first and foremost, and in support of me through this difficult time. A full house makes possible my efforts to bring quality flamenco to Maine, even when I can’t be present. I might be in the audience, I might have to be there in spirit. Either way, thank you for your understanding and support."

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and now based in Florida, USA, Marilia Quevedo is a global Flamenco artist, dancer, independent worker and potential dreamer. Flamenco dance is her language, the expression of the soul through the body and the concretion of the union of heaven and earth."The feeling of completeness that Flamenco gives me is an expression of all the emotions kept under lock and key." Marilia has performed, studied and taught worldwide, including the US, Argentina, Uruguay, Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Spain.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and now based in Florida, USA, Cristian Puig's Flamenco career stems from his heritage passed on from his parents Pablo (guitarist) and Gloria (singer). When he was 19 years old, Cristian began his studies in classical guitar at the Conservatory of Manuel de Falla as well as flamenco guitar with his father. He then studied flamenco guitar with Quique de Cordoba and furthered his studies in jazz, bossa nova, and contemporary music with various teachers. He has been self-taught ever since, using his musical influences and inspirations as his guide. In 1989 Puig formed the flamenco-jazz group “Rabat” and led the group in performances throughout South America. Puig came to New York in 2000 from Argentina with a guitar and a dream. He has since played all tablaos in NY and many nationwide. Notable accomplishments: Original compositions for the film The Late Quartet (2012), Tahlia Theater (2002-2012), Entre Cuerdas, with Al Dimeola, Inflam, and Inside/Out. Notable performances: Kimmel Center with Peter Nero and The Philly Pops, The Bahamas International film festival, and the White House with actor/singer Terrance Howard.
Originally a Portland-native drummer/percussionist, Behzad Habibzai has been playing flamenco guitar for over 25 years, 17 of those in Washington, DC with renowned flamenco artists. Now based in Maine, Behzad is a music composer and flamenco guitarist. He began playing drums and classical percussion at 10, maintaining a busy schedule performing orchestral, jazz, and punk rock, at rock clubs and symphony halls. At 14 he discovered flamenco guitar, going on to portray flamenco forms in performances with several international artists. Having worked regularly as a drummer, percussionist, and flamenco guitarist, he set his sights on the world of orchestration – entering the world of film music. Behzad has already lent his voice to several films and documentaries, helping filmmakers tell stories. Behzad's flamenco album ‘Bosquejos’ (2020), and released singles, can be found on most digital streaming platforms. Behzad often collaborates with his wife, Meghan Pilar Habibzai.
