Opening Reception: Peter Wallis' "Mythic and Quotidian"
Fri Sep 1, 2023 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Mayo Street Arts, 04101
Description
Join Mayo Street Arts for the opening reception of a solo exhibit by Peter Wallis, which brings together the Mythic and Quotidian.
Using a visual language of theater, abandoned buildings, combined with figurines, dance, and skeletons, Peter creates the architecture of memory and dreams.
"The process of walking is the starting point of all my work. I find elements and inspiration from where I am as a starting point... Collecting these moments from different walks, memories, people and places brings many elements into the work. I winnow these collections down and rework. I use these images as a balancing act with negative space to guide the viewer... Uncovering themes and digging into the history of each place or person allows me to research and develop ideas. I let the stories I find along the way guide my work. I am interested in exploring how memory changes over time."
You can read more about the exhibit here, which was recently shown at Vermont's Chaffer Arts Center.
The reception will take place at Mayo Street Arts from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. There will be festivity, libations, and light hors d'oeuvres.
On view through October 26. Open gallery hours include Fridays in September & October from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM & Sundays in October from 12:00 - 2:00 PM, or by appointment (email katie@mayostreetarts.org). The gallery will be closed on Friday, September 15.
