The Office of Community Engagement invites you to attend the 2nd Annual Community-Engaged Teaching and Learning Day! Join us for an exciting day of workshops and presentations that showcase practical approaches community-engaged teaching and learning for today and tomorrow. You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about digital tools that can used in the classroom to support community-engaged teaching and learning 
  • Gain insights on how to navigate Generative AI when working with both students and community 
  • Discuss common pitfalls (and opportunities) in community engagement and contribute to the development of an Open Educational Resource (OER)

This exciting event is designed to celebrate all things community-engaged teaching and learning, and we hope to see you there!

Agenda

  • 9:30 – 10:00 AM – Refreshments & Registration
  • 10:00 AM – 10:15 AM – Opening Remarks
  • 10:15 – 11:45 – Digital Tools Workshop
    • An interactive workshop delivered in partnership with the Sherman Centre. Intended to showcase digital tools (e.g. Menti, Voyant, Slack, etc.) and techniques that can be easily incorporated into community-engaged courses.
  • 11:45 AM – 12:00 PM – Break
  • 12:00 – 1:30 PM – Lunch & Gen. AI Presentation
    • A lunchtime presentation in partnership with Dr. Stephanie Verkoeyen (Special Advisor, Generative AI). Intended to help participants navigate tensions between students, the institution, and community surrounding ethical AI usage. 
  • 1:30 PM – 2:45 PM – Case Study Workshop
    • A co-creative workshop to examine common pitfalls (and opportunities) in community engagement. Participants will generate and explore interdisciplinary case studies based on the principles of community engagement, which can then be used as resources for community-engaged teaching and learning.
  • 2:45 – 3:00 PM – Closing Remarks
