Earth Week Celebration

Join McMaster University and the McMaster Hydrometeorology and Climatology Lab (led by Dr. Altaf Arain) for a special Earth Week event featuring a celebratory tree planting, urban environmental monitoring technology showcase, and an accouncement of new gifts that will support local conservation efforts.

McMaster University Earth Week Announcement

12:00 PM - 1:30 PM

McMaster President & Vice-Chancellor Dr. Susan Tighe will announce three new philanthropic gifts that will help expand teaching and research opportunities connected to the McMaster Carbon Sink Forest and the McMaster Forest Nature Preserve.

Guests will hear from McMaster leadership and community members who are advancing environmental work in the area, and a commemorative tree planting will be carried out by Dr. Susan Tighe. After, all will have the opportunity to participate in an annual tree planting event. 

Urban Environmental Monitoring Station (UEMS) Showcase and Tree Planting Event

1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

The Hydromet Lab will showcase the Urban Environmental Monitoring Station (UEMS) located at the McMaster Carbon Sink Forest. The UEMS is the first urban Greenhouse Gas (GHG) flux monitoring station in Canada, filling the critical urban environmental and GHG monitoring gap.

Following the showcase, participants will take part in the lab's annual tree planting event, contributing to the density and native diversity of the McMaster Carbon Sink Forest. Come plant a tree, take part in climate action, and exlore the science behind urban environmental monitoring!

Parking will be available nearby at 1175 Wilson St. East. In the event that this area is full, limited parking will also be available at 1221 Wilson St E (The River International Church).
