Description

This introductory 3.5 hour session raises awareness of mental health. This course covers:

  • What mental health is and how to challenge stigma
  • Basic knowledge of some common mental health issues
  • An introduction to looking after your own mental health and maintaining wellbeing
  • Confidence to support someone in distress or who may be experiencing a mental health issue

This course is a nationally recognised MHFA England course.

Your trainer will be Jay Thompson who is a Registered Mental Health Nurse, CBT Therapist and MHFA England Instructor. Jay has a wide range of experience working across the UK and on island in a variety of sectors and settings including schools, charities, and businesses. Jay is an experienced trainer and facilitator who makes training accessible, safe, engaging and practical.

Everyone who completes the course gets:

  • A certificate of attendance to say you are Mental Health Aware (electronic)
  • A manual & workbook to refer to whenever you need it

Who would benefit from the course?

Anyone who wants's to learn more about mental health! 

This course is designed for people aged 16+, if you are either 16 or 17 years old we will need a parents/guardians permission and it is recommended you attend with a responsible over 18.

We strongly believe that our communities will be safer, happier, and more prosperous the greater the number of people that have an awareness of mental health. Anyone can contribute to reducing stigma and increasing resources around mental health. This course is an ideal starting point for communities, organisations, or workplaces to initiate a conversation about mental health or top up on knowledge about key themes. You do not need any previous experience and anyone aged 16+ can join.

The Venue & Accessibility

Due to the new IOM Government Lockdown, this course will be held online.

We will be using 1st Douglas Scout Hall. It has accessible facilities and parking on site. The toilets are located up a short flight of stairs, the stairs have a seat lift. If you have any questions about accessibility either physically, emotionally or concerns about the content Jay would be more than happy to answer them.

Tea, coffee, water, and biscuits will be provided.
