The stunning Davidoff Trio are winners of the London 2025 Parkhouse Award. Founded in Mainz in Germany they made their UK Wigmore Hall debut in 2026 and have been touring in the Far East and Europe.

They play Schumann’s Piano Trio widely regarded as one of the greatest chamber works of the romantic era, and a further masterpiece by Beethoven. The rarity in this programme is the piano trio written by composer Anton Arensky (teacher of Rachmaninov and Scriabin) in memory of the celebrated Russian cellist Karl Davidoff (from whom the trio takes its name) whom Tchaikovsky described as “The czar of the cello”

The Davidoff Trio, founded in Mainz in 2021, is considered one of the most interesting up-and-coming piano trios on the European chamber music scene.
Regularly appearing on international stages, it has made guest appearances at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Brixen Classics Festival and the Festival Musikdorf Ernen, among others. In April 2025, the trio won the prestigious Parkhouse Award in London and has also received further national and international prizes, including most recently at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition 2026, the International JOSEPH JOACHIM Chamber Music Competition 2025, the International Gianni Bergamo Classic Music Award 2024, the Folkwang Prize and the Walbusch Prize from Jeunesses Musicales Germany.

For the 2025-2027 season, the trio has been appointed Ensemble in Residence at the ProQuartet - Centre Européen de Musique de Chambre in Paris. Concert recordings have been broadcast internationally on radio, most recently on SRF Kultur and WDR3.

The trio is currently studying at the Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen with Thomas Hoppe and at the International Institute for Chamber Music at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, where it was among the last ensembles to receive artistic guidance from Günter Pichler.

With the aim of making classical music accessible to a wide audience through innovative concert formats and unusual concert venues, the trio launched an interdisciplinary concert series in January 2025 at the popular Mainz bar "Nirgendwo", combining classical music with jazz and poetry.

Performances in 2026 will take the trio across Germany, to Spain, England, Italy, Finland and Japan, and include highlights such as their debut with Beethoven's Triple Concerto at the Philharmonie Essen and a recital at Wigmore Hall.

Johannes plays a violin by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume (Paris, ca. 1861), which has been kindly made available to him as a generous private loan and Christoph currently plays a cello by N. F. Vuillaume from the year 1860, generously on loan from Daniel Geiss.

Ticket holders will also have free (donations welcome) access to a musically illustrated talk by Rosamund Bartlett at 2pm on the cultural and musical background to the works to be performed.
