Middleburg Books Poetry Book Club with Poet Rebecca Brock!

Tue Sep 10, 2024 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM Middleburg Books, 20117

Welcome to Middleburg Books' Poetry Book Club! We're thrilled to host readers at our jewel-box of a shop as we discuss an array of poetry titles.

Our selection for September is The Way Land Breaks by Rebecca Brock, who is a local author. We're so delighted to share that the poet herself will be at this discussion! Be sure to read her collection before the event, as the majority of the conversation will be about the origins and craft of her poetry. It will be an intimate and casual event, but come ready with questions for the poet!

In The Way Land Breaks, award-winning poet Rebecca Brock uses time-human and geological-as both anchor and engine. These poems are revelation and love song to a faltering world. The Way Land Breaks travels the Idaho foothills of Brock's childhood, the sky she takes to as a flight attendant, her relationship with her mother and her sons and the distances between. From diabetes to earthquakes, mushrooms to Mars Rovers, Robin Hood to Vera Bradley-Brock asks questions about the landscape of home, the landscapes we seek within one other. Using tangible imagery and honest language, Brock shows us how love takes hold in the modern blur of disorder and constant change.

About the Poet:

Rebecca Brock is the author of The Way Land Breaks (Sheila-Na-Gig Editions 2023). Her work appears in The Threepenny Review, CALYX, THRUSH, Whale Road Review and elsewhere. In 2022, she won the Muriel Craft Bailey Memorial Poetry Contest at The Comstock Review, the Kelsay Book’s Woman’s Poetry Prize and the Editor's Choice Award at Sheila-Na-Gig. She has been a flight attendant for most of her adult life and is still surprised by this fact. You can find more of her work at www.rebeccabrock.org. (Instagram: @rebecca.brock_writer)
