An Evening with Michael H. Howland
In Conversation with Michael Morell, Former Acting and Deputy Director of the CIA
Sunday, September 20
5:00–8:00 PM
The Sheila C. Johnson Performing Arts Center at The Hill School
Middleburg Books, The Hill School, and The Middleburg Library Advisory Board invite you to an evening with longtime Hill School Board member Michael H. Howland, celebrating his memoir, Hidden Lines: The Secret Journal of a U.S. Hostage in Iran.
Howland kept the most detailed first-person account of any of the 52 American hostages held during the 1979–1981 Iran Hostage Crisis — over one thousand pages, written in secret, and hidden for nearly forty years. A former CIA Station Chief and U.S. Air Force veteran, Howland was confined at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs alongside then Chargé Bruce Laingen. Howland's memoir of that time is a riveting look at his 444 days in captivity.
He'll be joined in conversation by Michael Morell, a former Deputy and Acting Director of the CIA, for a rare evening of firsthand history from a beloved member of the Middleburg Community.
