Multiple dates and times Stage@TheDock, HU1 1UU

Plays by Jamie Lee Falk and Sarah Middleton

Save the Wreck is a brand-new 30-minute commission for Fresh Ink and a work-in-progress play. Let It Burn is Middle Child's 2027 flagship production, in the early stages of its development.

A second draft of Save the Wreck and an excerpt from an early draft of Let It Burn will both be performed script-in-hand inside a marquee on Stage@TheDock in the Fruit Market.

Save the Wreck by Jamie Lee Falk

On a close-knit Hull council estate, four lifelong friends treasure a patch of woodland they call the Wreck: a place of laughter, memories and community. When developers threaten to build on it, the friends launch a series of chaotic schemes to save it.

Save the Wreck highlights the impact of lost green spaces, wildlife under threat and the importance of mental health. This is a heartfelt, funny and mischievous play that celebrates friendship, resilience, and a community that always has each other’s backs.

Jamie Lee Falk is a lifelong Hull resident and author of two novels, who discovered a passion for theatre after taking part in Hull Truck Theatre’s Playwriting Course. This is their first commission as a playwright.

Let It Burn by Sarah Middleton

Let It Burn is a new comic play about the noble pursuit of making art, based on the true story of Hull’s Theatre Royal, which once stood on Humber Street and burnt down twice in the 1800s.

It follows actor-manager Clinton Hall and his rag-tag troupe of thespians, who attempt to stage Hamlet Crusoe, the ultimate theatre mash-up, in a desperate bid to preserve the theatre's royal patronage.

Sarah Middleton is an actor-writer whose plays include SHEWOLVES, which toured the UK before transferring to Southwark Playhouse, and Dweeb-a-Mania, which won the inaugural Polka Playwriting Award and premiered at the Polka Theatre in 2025.

Sarah is the recipient of a Hosking Houses residency, Peggy Ramsay grant and National Theatre Peter Shaffer commission.

A limited number of tickets will be reserved to book on the day from our festival box office, by the venue.
