The Event: “An Intimate Evening with Ken Dryden” will be an informal and light-hearted evening which will include a conversation with Ken, readings from Ken’s recent books “Scotty” and “The Class,” a question-and-answer session with Ken, a trivia quiz about Ken Dryden, and some insights into Ken provided by some of his former classmates. It promises to be a memorable evening. The event will take place in Rotary Hall with bar service for guests in the balcony and on the floor. Each ticket purchased includes a $25 contribution to the MCC, for which you will receive a charitable donation tax receipt.
The Guest: Ken Dryden has had an amazing career. As an NHL goalie with the Montreal Canadiens from 1971 to 1979 , he was NHL Rookie-of-the-Year, won the Vezina Trophy (top goaltender) five times, was an NHL All Star, won the Conn Smythe Trophy (Most Valuable Player in the Playoffs), played for Team Canada in the 1972 Summit Series, and won six Stanley Cups. (And he did all this while he was attending, and graduating from, McGill Law School). He is in the Hockey Hall of Fame and was named #25 of the 100 greatest hockey players of all time.
Following his “retirement", Ken was a hockey commentator for ABC for three Olympic Games, and did a six-hour, six-part series for CBC. He served as President of the Toronto Maple Leafs, was elected as an MP in 2004 and served as a Cabinet Minister. All this while writing 9 books (to date), all of them national bestsellers, including “Scotty” (about NHL legendary coach Scotty Bowman) and “The Class” (about his classmates at Etobicoke Collegiate Institute), and teaching at McGill.
