Doors at 5pm - Artist Talk begins at 6pm
Join us at the MCC Gallery of Indigenous Art on Thursday, February 20, 2025, for an engaging talk with Tsista Kennedy as he delves into his creative process behind the He Carries Fire exhibition, currently on display until March 1, 2025.
Born in the fall of 2001, Tehatsistahawi (Tsista) Kennedy is a Turtle Clan Anishinaabe and Onyota’a:aka artist belonging to Beausoleil First Nation and Oneida Nation of the Thames. A self-taught artist, Tsista primarily works in digital media, developing a distinctive variation of the woodland style characterized by semi-bold black lines, intricate patterns, and vibrant colors that create a dynamic flow across the canvas. His artwork merges traditional influences with contemporary perspectives, weaving in personal experiences and stories to craft pieces that are both deeply rooted in cultural heritage and uniquely his own. A frequent daydreamer, many of his best works emerge from spontaneous images or ideas that spark his imagination.
Don't miss this opportunity to hear firsthand about the inspirations and techniques behind He Carries Fire and gain insight into the mind of this talented young artist.
