Opening Reception: "Spirit Beads" - The Paintings of Patti Belanger

Sat 14 Feb 2026 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM MCC Gallery of Indigenous Art, L4R3M7

Exhibition Opening Reception: February 14 | 2–4 PM

Patti Belanger is a proud Métis citizen from Region 7 and a Penetanguishene-based visual artist whose work is deeply rooted in Métis culture, faith, and a profound connection to the land. Drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of Georgian Bay, Belanger creates vibrant landscape paintings that blend contemporary pointillism, mixed media, and beadwork into a distinctive style she calls Contemporary Textural Pointillism.

Her paintings are characterized by luminous dots of colour that echo traditional Métis beadwork, animating each landscape with movement, light, and spiritual rhythm. Through this layered approach, Belanger invites viewers to experience the land not only as a place, but as a living presence shaped by memory, storytelling, and resilience.

Belanger is an Indigenous professional artist whose work has been exhibited in respected galleries and cultural spaces across Ontario and is included in the Government of Ontario Art Collection Archives. She also plays a leading role in the Kooshkopayiw Métis Art Collective, supporting community-based arts initiatives that celebrate and elevate Métis voices.

Through her work, Patti Belanger seeks to honour Métis identity, faith, and connection to place—using colour, texture, and spirit to create landscapes that resonate far beyond the canvas.

Join us for the opening reception on February 14 from 2–4 PM and experience this captivating exhibition in person.

The exhibition will be on display until May 30.
