Steam Railway Day

A day to enjoy the Middy and its feel of an Edwardian country railway (with the added attractions of a museum, tea room and bar of course).

In 2012 the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway was voted the Heritage Railway Association’s Interpretation Award Winners for recreating the unique atmosphere of a rural light railway. We have continued to try to keep that ethos alive by using only rolling stock and station buildings of the period of the first half of the twentieth century. Unfortunately none of the locomotives , carriages and wagons of the original Middy have survived, but we do have several original buildings which are in use around the site. And it could be argued that our relatively obscure position is very much in geographical keeping with the old Middy as it wended its way through small villages and lightly populated countryside.
