Masques & Bergamasques. Mihai Ritivoiu Piano Recital

Wed 9 Sep 2026 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM Burgh House, NW3 1LT

Mihai Ritivoiu presents a poetic programme, including Debussy's much-loved Clair de lune, particularly suited to the intimate setting of the Music Room at Burgh House. From Schumann's turbulent and mercurial Allegro, Op. 8, the programme takes us to music by twentieth-century French and Romanian composers who don the masks of earlier styles.

Programme:
R. Schumann: Allegro in B minor, Op 8
C. Debussy: Suite bergamasque
F. Poulenc: Mélancolie, FP 105
G. Enescu: Suite No 2 in D major, Op. 10

Praised for his “mastery of temporal pacing” (Musical Opinion) and the “unobtrusive deftness and clarity” of his playing (The Arts Desk), Mihai Ritivoiu is a Romanian pianist whose performances combine intellectual insight with a distinctive poetic imagination. Prizewinner of the George Enescu International Competition, he has appeared as soloist with orchestras including the English Chamber Orchestra, the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra and the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, and has performed at major venues and festivals across Europe and Japan. His repertoire ranges from Baroque to contemporary music, with a particular affinity for French and Romanian piano music of the first half of the 20th century.
