About the Speakers

Emma Longland is part of Venner Shipley’s Chemical and Life Sciences Team in Cambridge. Emma is very active in the Cambridge start-up community, providing IP strategy advice and services to biotech spinouts and their investors. Emma is an experienced patent attorney with a wealth of advice regarding the IP opportunities and potential pitfalls for innovative growth businesses. Emma has expertise with inventions in the medical and biotechnology fields including, for example, cell and gene therapeutics, nucleic acid extraction and sequencing methods, CRISPR technologies, vaccines, antibodies, and protein therapeutics generally.

Tim Russell is part of Venner Shipley’s Chemical and Life Sciences Team, based in Cambridge and works closely with growth stage companies in the Cambridge life sciences sector. He is an experienced patent attorney and can provide strategic intellectual property (IP) advice for small companies who are looking to gain investment. Tim has a background in chemistry and the pharmaceutical industry and advises a wide range of clients in the space. For the Founders Growth Community he can offer invaluable knowledge on how to commercialise IP, with practical, achievable and timely advice, tailored to individual business needs. Tim’s experience covers various subject-matter including adjuvants, catalysis, compositions, personalised medicine, polymorphic forms, small molecule active ingredients, synthetic processes, and first and further medical uses.

About the Founders Growth Community
The Founders Growth Community (FGC) has been created to support pre-series A life science/biotech founders and leaders. The group helps to accelerate the funding process with workshops and networking and an online community to share resources and advice.

The initiative came from an idea at the Milner Therapeutics Institute, who then formed a coalition of like-minded accelerators and incubators to turn the idea into reality. The other leading partners are Babraham Research Campus, o2h, and Illumina Venture Labs.
