Mindfulness has much to offer those who wish for more rest, and a better quality of sleep. Here, we learn mindful practices that support refreshing sleep at night, and give you more energy during the day. Attending a course is particularly effective for re-setting healthy sleep patterns. Focusing on sleep over time has a cumulative effect. As you practise sleep-related skills, your system re-learns what it already knows and wants. With the support of the group, you embed new conditions which encourage sound and restorative sleep.
Better Sleep with Mindfulness covers:
- Getting to bed ‘procrastination’, tuning into natural body rhythms that tend to sleepiness and sleep
- Getting to sleep, healthy pre-bed activities, daytime practices to aid night-time sleep, sleep cycles
- Staying asleep, going deeper with sleep practices, awareness of dreams, and 8-hour ‘rest opportunity window’
- Waking up easily, with effective day-time naps and energy-boosters for fresh and wakeful days.
Following the course and its practices, you can expect to make significant progress in tackling common difficulties with sleep, such as:
- Feeling ‘tired but wired’ at night
- Struggling to get to sleep, or stay asleep
- Waking up feeling tired and drained
- Not waking up or getting up when you wish
- Feeling tired during the day
Groups are friendly and supportive, as we explore the challenges of your night-time 'rest opportunity'. You have the chance to lie down for meditations (rather like ’napping’), so bring something to lie on if you wish.
Dr Elizabeth English taught Mindfulness for Better Sleep at Cambridge University. This online course aims to bring her work to a wider audience.
