American Patchwork Quartet

American Patchwork Quartet brings together four extraordinary musicians to explore the rich, diverse tapestry of American music. The group features Grammy-winning vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Falu, acclaimed guitarist and producer Clay Ross, Grammy-winning bassist Yasushi Nakamura, and renowned percussionist Clarence Penn. Together, they reimagine traditional American songs through a vibrant blend of folk, jazz, blues, country, and global musical influences.

At the heart of American Patchwork Quartet is a celebration of the many cultures and voices that have shaped the American musical landscape. The band takes songs drawn from the American folk tradition—including spirituals, work songs, hymns, and traditional ballads—and gives them fresh arrangements that reflect the country’s extraordinary cultural diversity. Their music connects generations and musical traditions, revealing the shared stories of immigration, struggle, hope, identity, and belonging that run throughout the American experience.

With virtuosic musicianship and a deeply collaborative spirit, American Patchwork Quartet creates performances that are both musically adventurous and emotionally resonant. Rather than simply preserving traditional songs, the group gives them new life, demonstrating how American music continues to evolve through the meeting of different cultures and traditions. The result is a powerful, contemporary sound that honors the past while offering a compelling vision of what American music can be today.
