Misfit Academy produces immersive, site specific, and innovative performing arts programming and provides venue support, resources, and continuing education to performance artists who struggle to find a home in more conventional spaces.

Our mission includes showing fellow people of marginalized identities that we, too, have a place in classical theatre and the performing arts through site specific and immersive theatrical, musical, and themed events.

Misfit Academy primarily serves the LGBTQIA+ community, age-diverse audiences, and low-income working artists. Much of the work we produce combines artistic forms, disciplines, and backgrounds in ways that are not easily defined by conventional arts programming. In doing so, we encourage audiences and artists from all backgrounds to become a part of the worlds we create in ways that encourage deep connection to the work and reward a sense of play.

Programs include the immersive theatre company Speculative Drama, music program Séance, multi-disciplinary performance series The Night Carnival, an artist residency program, and our downtown community arts incubator Joyful Trouble.
