Our Purpose
The Mister HBCU Kings’ Leadership Conference and Competition was created to support, honor and strengthen the role of HBCU campus Kings. These young men are in critical leadership roles on their campuses and investing in them, collectively, builds a community of Men who support, contribute to, and cherish HBCUs. The honor of being crowned the King of all HBCUs is bestowed upon one young man annually. The 16th Annual Mister HBCU Kings’ Leadership Conference and Competition will be held at the Holiday Inn St. Louis - Downtown Convention Center on Jan 29 - Feb 1, 2020. For more information, please call 877-7MR-HBCU (877-767-4228) or email info@misterhbcu.org.
Our History
The history and conception of the Mister HBCU Kings’ Leadership Conference and Competition started in 2004, with a conversation on the campus of Lincoln University of Missouri. After laying a firm foundation, the first Mister HBCU Kings’ Leadership Conference and Competition was held on the campus of Lincoln University of Missouri in February 2005. The Mister HBCU Kings’ Leadership Conference and Competition was founded by Mrs. Benecia Spencer Williams, Lincoln University’s former Vice President for Advancement. Under her leadership, the organization grew and the number of institutions participating increased tremendously. In 2015, Dr. Jerome Offord, Jr. assumed the lead role in coordinating the event and in 2016, the Mister HBCU Kings’ Leadership Conference and Competition, Inc. was incorporated under the laws of the State of Missouri and is a federally recognized 501(c) (3) tax exempt organization.
Our Mission
To enhance the leadership skills of males attending HBCUs by creating an infrastructure for leadership that enables them to develop as spokespersons, role models and leaders in their respective universities and communities, while participating in competition to serve as the reigning Mister HBCU.
Our Beliefs
We believe that HBCU campuses, and their male students, are tremendously enhanced by the presence of campus King and the impact their roles have on recruitment, retention, and mentor of male students.
