In the Swale Estuary, archaeologists are working alongside communities to explore how factors like climate change are increasingly altering ecosystems, historic landscapes, and the ways of life that people have built around their local coastal environment.
Island residents can join us for a free creative workshop at the Criterion Blue Town at 11am – 1pm to practise art or learn a new art form.
Participants will work with clay and beach materials such as pottery sherds, driftwood, shells and grasses to create a sculpture in response to their experience and memories of the coast. Local artist, Laurie Harpum, will instruct and guide participants who can choose to craft their own piece or collaborate.
This event is designed to bring participants together to explore coastal change in their local area through learning and practising new skills and art forms. The specific historic and natural environments will serve as inspiration for participants creativity and you will have opportunity to learn more about heritage and archaeology whilst sharing your own memories and perspectives with Archaeologists from Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA).
