In the Swale Estuary, archaeologists are working alongside communities to explore how factors like climate change are increasingly altering ecosystems, historic landscapes, and the ways of life that people have built around their local coastal environment.
Island residents can join us for a free creative workshop outdoors at Warden Bay Beach during low-tide at 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
Participants will be guided in the creation of an ephemeral sculpture and artwork by island artist Laurie Harpum, using materials such as pottery sherds, driftwood, shells and grasses. Participants will be encouraged to explore the coastal environment considering the history and origin of the objects.
This event is designed to bring participants together to explore coastal change in their local area through learning and practising new skills and art forms. The specific historic and natural environments will serve as inspiration for participants creativity and you will have opportunity to learn more about heritage and archaeology whilst sharing your own memories and perspectives with Museum of London Archaeology practitioners.
