Coasts in Mind Wirral Archives Volunteer Group

Mapping 100 Years of Coastal Change on the Wirral

Coasts in Mind and Wirral Archives are launching a new workshop series exploring 100 years of coastal change across the Wirral.

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join us in researching how the Wirral’s coastline has changed over the last century, from changing industries and coastal landscapes to lost seaside resorts and communities.

Across the sessions, we’ll work together to investigate historic maps, photographs, documents and other archive material, building a picture of how the coastline has changed and uncovering stories about places that have disappeared, been transformed or are at risk of being lost.

We’re hoping to bring together a regular group of volunteers who can return to sessions throughout the project. By working together over time, the group will be able to build up their research skills, share discoveries and contribute to a growing record of the Wirral’s coastal history.

You don’t need to have previous experience of archives or historical research. Whether you already have a passion for local history or are simply curious about how the Wirral has changed, we’d love to have you involved.

Sessions will take place on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month, with the first session on Tuesday the 20th of October. To get things started, lunch will be provided at our first session, giving everyone a chance to meet the team, get to know the other volunteers and find out more about the project.

Come along, explore the archives and help us map a century of change along the Wirral coast.
