The 11 Districts and Boroughs in Surrey are partnering together on Wednesday 11 March (6pm – 8.30pm) to host a free webinar for all private landlords and letting agents operating in Surrey. This is the first fully-online landlord’s event that Surrey has run and aims to provide key updates on the Renters’ Rights Act set to come into force on 1 May 2026. This event is designed to help landlords navigate this legislation and support the ongoing work taking place to provide fit-for-purpose housing to those in need across Surrey.

The Act will bring about a number of key changes for landlords including; an end to “no fault” evictions and fixed term contracts; new rules on when rent can be increased; how properties can be advertised, and fair consideration with regards to tenants owning pets in their rental property.

The key speaker for the event will be Tessa Shepperson. Tessa has been a solicitor since 1990, and has specialised in landlord and tenant law for over 25 years. She runs an online Landlord Law subscription service (which is mainly for landlords but also has some letting agents and other members) since 2001, and provides training for her members and for other organisations such as Propertymark, the professional body for the property sector. Information on the future dates for individual in person District and Boroughs landlords forums will also be shared at this event.
