Description
This comprehensive certified training is designed to equip teachers with a strong foundation in the core elements of Restorative Practice for Secondary School Teachers. Throughout the three-session course, participants will learn how to apply restorative principles in teaching and learning, effectively resolve conflicts, and address potential bullying issues in both the classroom and the entire school environment. Whether you are looking to implement Restorative Practice in your own classroom or on a whole-school basis, this course will provide you with essential tools to begin your restorative journey with the children you teach.
Course Format
Each session lasts 90 minutes and includes a mix of engaging components, such as PowerPoint presentations, instructional videos, and valuable experiential input from the facilitator. The three sessions are spread over nine weeks, allowing participants to practice and apply the elements introduced in each session in their classrooms. As an integral part of the course, participants are encouraged to share their experiences and insights within the supportive course community.

Session One: Affective Statements and Questions, Restorative Questions for Conflict Resolution, and Building Relationships
In the first session, participants will learn the power of affective statements and questions in fostering a positive classroom environment. They will also gain valuable insights into using restorative questions to resolve conflicts and build stronger relationships with their students.

Session Two: Reframing & Restorative Circle Work
During the second session, teachers will delve into the concept of reframing and its importance in shifting perspectives to promote understanding and empathy. They will also explore restorative circle work as an effective tool to encourage open communication and collaboration among students.

Session Three: Restorative Conferencing – A Collaborative Approach to Address Serious Conflicts & Bullying
In the final session, participants will be introduced to restorative conferencing—a constructive method to address serious conflicts and bullying incidents involving groups of children and which can also include parents. This collaborative approach can offer an alternative to going the route of complaints procedures and board involvement, as it facilitates a group to find effective resolutions to harm-doing and conflict that supports the restoration of peaceful relationships.
