'Mainely' Chamber Music - Stravinsky Symphonies of Winds
Welcome to our second 'Mainely' Chamber Music Concert, featuring the woodwind and brass sections in Stravinsky's Symphonies of Wind Instruments, plus works by Grieg, Griebling-Haigh, Mendelssohn, and Bozza.
Stravinsky composed his Symphonies of Wind Instruments in memoriam of Claude Debussy in 1920. Distinct from the compositional form, Stravinsky’s "symphonies" refer to the original Greek definition of the word, meaning consonance of sound. This consonance applies merely to the selection of instruments included in Symphonies; Stravinsky, in his characteristic fashion, created an evocative soundscape bursting with color.
