Jaz Delorean & Logan Metz: A Piano Brawl.

Straighten your tie, fix your lipstick and slip through the side door.

For one night only, the arts centre is going underground to become a smokey backroom speakeasy. Logan and Jaz are plotting a 'piano brawl',  where the gin is surreptitious and the music is very, very real. We'd love to see you dress the part.

You'll know Jaz Delorean, the travelling songwriter, pianist and voice of Tankus, from years of turning our stages upside down. Jaz lives on a riverboat and has a real love for how songs sound before they're polished up for big stages, the way they first came together around a campfire or on an old piano he found backstage somewhere.

His sound is steeped in mid-century music and literature, stride piano and balladic storytelling, and he's carried it everywhere from New Orleans to Tirana. Along the way he's played Glastonbury (regularly), Montreux Jazz Festival, all over France, WOMAD, Boomtown and more.

Alongside him is Logan Metz, a Wisconsin songwriter, raconteur and seven-year member of Promise of the Real. He's shared stages with Neil Young, Eddie Vedder and Bob Weir, and since 2023 he's been playing piano on tour with Willie Nelson himself. Logan writes in the proud tradition of Tom Waits, Randy Newman and Leon Russell, with artful chord changes, colourful characters and a wry wit. He's back on the road ahead of his long-awaited second album, with the singles "Sunrise" and "Overrated" out now.

The mobile keyboard is staying at home this time. Jaz and Logan have built their own pianos and are bringing both, plus a guitar and an accordion. In their words, they have "a vague but groovy plan". We're not sure what's going to happen either, but we're pretty sure it'll be a brilliant, slightly mad night.

Dress the part, darlings... We could probably all benefit from a bit of escapism.. This is a speakeasy, so please do dress up! Think flapper dresses, pearls, fringes and feathers, or the pinstripes, braces, bow ties and fedoras. Come as a bootlegger, a jazz baby or a smooth-talking gangster. It doesn't have to be perfect, but half the fun is dressing the part!

See you behind the curtain..
