An elaborate miniature display that tells the Christmas story, the putz is a Moravian tradition that reaches back into the eighteenth century. A collection of Jenny Trein’s (1879-1977) amazing pieces will be on view at the Moravian Historical Society’s 1740 Gray Cottage. Trein, a Folk Artist from Nazareth, Pennsylvania, made her very first putz in 1908, and continued every year for six decades. Nearly 500 pieces, mostly handmade, were part of the holiday season for generations of Nazareth residents.
Tours are available daily: 1:45, 2:45, and 3:45 pm.
Advance registration is encouraged due to limited space. Admission to the putz exhibition is FREE. Please arrive at the Whitefield House Museum to check in for your tour.
