"This Dish is Made of Clay. When it Breaks, the Potter Laughs:” Revisiting Pennsylvania German Redware

Sun Sep 27, 2026 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM EDT

Christopher Malone, curator at Historic Trappe and content curator for Americana Insights, will discuss the early scholarship and new research on Pennsylvania German red earthenware pottery. From the first seminal work on the subject by Edwin Atlee Barber to the latest volume of Americana Insights dedicated solely to the topic, Malone will delve into the history of redware in Pennsylvania, the potters and their wares, and provide fresh updates on a number of pieces and personalities.

Please note, the talk is on the second floor of our historic eighteenth-century building, which is accessible only by stairs.
