Event information:
This will be a walk to remember those people we have lost to suicide. A walk to support those living with suicidal thoughts and stand in solidarity with them. A walk of companionship and consolidation, of compassion and awareness raising.
We will gather in each of the locations at the meeting point noted above at 06:00 in the morning and make our way for a commemorative and reflective walk, combining the power of silence and the power of sharing. Around 06:37 we will pause to watch the sunrise, and following this take time to share and connect, before heading back to our meeting point.
As hosts to the gathering, Moray Wellbeing Hub will provide walk facilitators who are mental health first aid trained who will help to guide the walk and support any sharing, as well as signpost to local supports. We will also be joined by TBC. Together we also hope to provide a hot drink post walk (this may vary depending on venue and weather).
A Walk of Hope is free to attend, however the final details for those wishing to join will be made available by email to those registering online to ensure that sufficient planning can be in place.
Background to the event:
Moray's Walk of Hope started in 2022 with one event and grew to four in 2023, proving a popular way to have hope and connect for change in we Suicide Prevention Awareness Week. We really hope you can join us at one or more walks. We will walk in the early hours seeing in the dawn together and finding hope around suicide. The aim of the events is to bring people of all ages from across Moray together (under 16 accompanied by an adult) to walk into the light.
This event has been made possible through our Collective Voice project supported by Moray's Alcohol and Drug Partnership.
The Walk of Hope is one of a range of events in the lead up and during Suicide Prevention Week. This includes activities around suicide prevention and opportunities to reflect all around the UK and all across Moray. For more information on, Suicide Prevention courses, local resources and activities from partners across Moray visit the Moray Wellbeing Hub website and social media.
If there are any barriers to registering or using technology to book, people are encouraged to call Moray Wellbeing Hub for alternative booking: hello@moraywellbeinghub.org.uk and we will try to assist you.
IMPORTANT Walker Agreement!
By taking part in the walk, you are agreeing the following:
1. I’ll only walk if I am fit enough, and it’s up to me to assess if I can do the Health Walk safely.
2. If I have any concerns about my ability to participate in the walk, I’ll talk to a Walk Leader or a health professional.
3. I’ll tell a Walk Leader if I feel unwell while out on a walk or if I am leaving the walk before it has ended.
4. I understand that I come on this Health Walk at my own risk.
5. Finally, as walkers and Walk Leaders we agree to respect each other.
You will be asked to confirm you agree to this during the checkout questions!
