Session 3: Burnout in Peer Support

In person (Elgin) | Thursday 25 June | 12:00 – 13:30 | + Lunch Included afterwards

This session of the Moray Peer Support Community of Practice will focus on burnout within peer support roles.

Peer support is meaningful and rewarding, but it can also be emotionally demanding. This session creates a reflective and supportive space to explore how we recognise early signs of burnout, share responsibility, and use community-based approaches to care.

**Booking is essential**

What we will explore together:

  • What burnout can look and feel like in peer support roles
  • Early signs and pressures that may contribute to burnout
  • The impact of boundaries, expectations, and emotional labour

The session will include realistic peer support scenarios, giving opportunities to:

  • Reflect on burnout-related challenges in a safe, non-judgmental space
  • Share strategies that have supported wellbeing and sustainability
  • Learn from others’ experiences and approaches

Networking and connection

This session will offer space to:

  • Connect with other peer supporters and groups across Moray
  • Share challenges and mutual support strategies
  • Strengthen a sense of community and shared responsibility

CHIME outcomes

This session is grounded in the CHIME framework of recovery and supports:

  • Connection – reducing isolation through shared understanding and mutual support
  • Hope – recognising that burnout can be addressed through collective approaches
  • Identity – maintaining a healthy sense of self within peer roles
  • Meaning – reconnecting with purpose while caring for wellbeing
  • Empowerment – building confidence to ask for support and share responsibility

As with all Community of Practice sessions, this is a space to learn with one another — grounded in lived experience, reflection, and collective wisdom.
