Peer2Peer - Course Overview:

Based on the Peer2Peer course, this course gives an overview of essential knowledge of peer-support including recovery theory and peer values.

Attendees are required to:
Attend as an open peer of life-challenges: We welcome those in professional or support roles but within the course, they will be expected to put these aside and join the groups as equals. This course is intended for people who live, work, volunteer, study, or support communities in Moray

You will need to be able to commit to the full course: 2x 4 hour sessions for Peer2Peer Essentials.

Moray Wellbeing Hub uses Peer2Peer to empower individuals in a range of roles to be better able to:

  • Harness their own peer experiences as a tool for use in their area of specialism to support better recovery and wellbeing outcomes for those they work with.
  • Deliver peer-training courses to a QA standard
  • Work alongside fellow Champions to support existing and develop new projects with the MWH.
  • Challenge stigma and influence change in their communities by using their own experiences, as well as supporting others to do the same.

Those attending are welcome to complete the Peer2Peer Next Steps and Recovery Stories session (dates coming soon) and complete the assessment to gain a full Peer2Peer pass as part of Moray Wellbeing Hub's QA approach.

*QA (Quality Assurance) in peer-training. Currently, the Moray Wellbeing Hub is developing core competencies that we look for from any trainer in the peer-trainer pool. These are based around the existing QA used for WRAP and involve mentoring and journaling / reflective practice as trainers develop their skills.

What is peer-support?
Peer Support can be used by anyone with any kind of life experience. It occurs when people provide knowledge, experience, emotional, social or practical help to each other. Peer support is distinct from other forms of social support in that the source of support is a peer, a person who is similar in fundamental ways to the recipient of the support; their relationship is one of equality. An effective peer-support relationship is mutual, authentic and intentional.

As human beings we are all peers of mental health experiences, wellbeing and life challenges - Self-awareness of the fact that we all have fluctuating health and can experience distress at any time, can be harnessed as a powerful tool to empower ourselves and others.

This course is designed to hone your peer-support skills for any life role you choose.

Background:
Peer2Peer was developed as a result of a European Union-funded partnership project (that included the Scottish Recovery Network) to train people with lived experience of mental health problems to support others in their recovery.

Peer Researcher:

Peer2Peer training equips peer researchers with the mindset, skills, and frameworks to conduct ethical, impactful, and empowering research grounded in lived experience. It bridges the gap between personal insight and structured inquiry—making it especially valuable in fields focused on wellbeing, recovery, and social change.

Whether you're new to peer support, peer research or building on existing experience, this course provides space to explore, learn, and grow in your role.

FAQs:

What makes Moray Wellbeing Hub courses different?
Real life experiences: We believe in harnessing the power of life experiences, taking what can be challenging and abstract concepts and make it more 'real', practically useful and easier to relate to for participants. Wherever possible our courses are delivered by peer-trainers, people who know the approaches and experiences first hand from their own life.

Keeping it local: Moray has a wealth of support and education organisations in wellbeing. Our courses are delivered for the benefit of the Moray community and therefore endeavour to help our participants build sustainable links beyond any course; resources they can signpost to and access in Moray. Wherever possible we will use local trainers, venues and resources, as well as promote and deliver our courses in mutual partnership with all sizes of local organisations.
