Know your coast: Heritage walk

Sat 27 Jun 2026 3:15 PM - 5:15 PM Rosemarkie Beach

Do you know which flowering plant grows in the sea? Why the name Rosemarkie has more to do with horses than roses? Or which common seaweed was used as a slimming aid?

Join Mossy Earth and Roddy Maclean for a gentle walk along Rosemarkie beach where we’ll talk Gaelic names, coastal heritage and folklore. We would love to hear your stories and recollections too!

Mossy Earth’s Wilder Firths team are working across the Inverness, Beauly and Cromarty Firths to restore biogenic habitats such as seagrass.

Roddy Maclean is an award-winning journalist, broadcaster, educator, author and storyteller, who works mostly in Gaelic to foster understanding of the rich connections between the language, environment, and cultural heritage of Highland Scotland.
