Modernist Crossings - Teaching Modernism across the Curriculum, with MSA Prizes Announcement!

All are welcome to join at the start of the event, when the MSA, and Second Vice-President Robert Higney, will announce the winners of the four publication prizes this year: Book Prize, First Book Prize, Translation Prize, and the new Caucus for Contingent and Independent Scholars Essay Prize.

A sandbox implies we're building alongside each other; please bring your documents, notes, ideas, questions, and expertise. We will discuss a range of pedagogical contexts in which modernism might be adopted in syllabi, in lesson plans, and in the pursuit of a range of learning goals (from literacy to basic research skills to academic professionalization). Given the relentless emphasis that the ed tech industry and its administrative boosters lend to GenAI- shortcuts these days, we are particularly (but not only!) interested in discussing the study of modernism in the context of pedagogical demonstrations of and invitations to process: i.e., to the experience of reading and writing and thinking and living—messy, first-hand, social, exploratory, revisable, worthwhile.
