Mosaic for Beginners: Create a Decorative Coaster

Sat 3 Oct 2026 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM The Project Space, Parndon Mill, Parndon Mill Lane, Harlow, CM20 2HP

Learn the basics of traditional mosaic in this friendly, relaxed workshop, where you’ll design and make your own unique mosaic coaster. This class is an accessible introduction to mosaic, suitable for absolute beginners, with full guidance throughout from an experienced teacher. You can create your own design or use one of my templates — either way, you’ll be supported step by step.

All tools and materials are provided during the session, and we’ll focus on cutting and assembling your mosaic. Once all your mosaic tiles are glued into place, your coaster will be ready to take home and finish. You will be provided with a full grouting kit (you only need to add water!) along with full written and video instructions so you can complete your unique coaster confidently in your own time.

The workshops are kept friendly and relaxed, with plenty of time for questions and one-to-one help. By the end, you’ll have a one-of-a-kind coaster made by you, and a solid foundation in mosaic techniques that you can build on at home.

The workshop takes place in our dedicated Project Space at the picturesque Parndon Mill, a surprising little countryside oasis just 15 minutes walk from Harlow Station. Harlow, Essex. Regular trains to Harlow leave from Liverpool Street Station in Central London. Tea and coffee-making facilities are available and I will of course bring some biscuits for us all!

Your tutor: my name is Muna and I love teaching workshops and sharing the skills that I have acquired over the last 30 years as a practicing artist. You can find out a bit more about me and see some of my work at https://www.munazuberi.co.uk/

Some feedback from previous workshops:
'Oh it was so lovely! Really enjoyed myself and it's great to learn a new process'.
'Fun day. Very informative and very clear instructions and demos'.
'Hugely enjoyable day. So absorbing'.
'I have had the best day - Muna was a fantastic teacher - explained it clearly and encouraged us to do everything ourselves. Loved it!'.

Accessibility
The class takes place in the Project Space at Parndon Mill. The room is accessed via a short but quite steep ramp. The room itself is all on one level. The toilet in the project space is accessed via a slightly narrow door and has two steps down to the toilet and hand basin. There is a fully accessible toilet in a separate building about 20 meters away from the project space. All instructions in the class are given verbally and demonstrated physically. There are also written instructions available for all participants. You can ask for more information or clarification at any time!

In this class we will be cutting vitreous glass tiles with mosaic nippers. You do need a certain amount of strength in your hands to use the nippers. I would compare it to using pruning shears on a woody stem (I hope that gives you an idea!).

Please let me know if you have any other questions about accessibility - email me: info@munazuberi.co.uk. I am keen to make my classes as accessible as possible and welcome any feedback or questions you might have.
