Action in Practice: Confidence in Climate Communication
This session is for you if you are interested in:
- Exploring sector-specific resources and initiatives for effective climate communication with audiences and visitors
- Building team confidence to support staff and volunteers to communicate environmental responsibility
- Addressing key challenges and developing clear sustainability communications plans using tools designed for and by museums and cultural organisations
Communicating sustainability in the face of climate crisis is both essential and daunting. Sharing your commitment to environmental responsibility can feel challenging when deep work is ongoing and pressures intensify. This session will focus on tools, insights and pathways to gaining confidence in climate communication.
What will the session involve?
The 90-minute online session will feature two lightning talk case studies on the theme of Confidence in Climate Communication:
- A museum expert: Sophie Westlake, Activities & Diversity Officer, The Vindolanda Trust, and the Vindolanda Volunteering Toolkit
- An industry expert: Flo Carr, Associate Director, Indigo and the Talking Sustainability Toolkit and pilot project
During the session we will collectively explore:
- What are the challenges to taking action and how are we overcoming them?
- What is making a positive difference and having the biggest impact in our organisations?
- What data we might gather to support this work and further advocacy?
- What useful templates, tools and top tips can we share with each other?
There will be chance to dive deeper into and connect with museum people to connect with others who are tackling similar challenges. Recorded talks and session resources will be shared after each event.
Who is the session for?
Everyone is welcome, from beginners to experts. There will be opportunities to join the conversation and to share your experiences or you are welcome to simply listen to others.
Facilitators
Action in Practice sessions are hosted, managed and delivered by Museum Development North on behalf of Museum Development England as part of Roots & Branches environmental responsibility programme.
Sessions are facilitated by Catherine Mailhac, a Carbon Literate Freelancer and sector evaluation specialist.
