MoA Conference  3-6pm Wednesday 2 November

The Museum of Architecture is proud to bring together a series of community-led projects of varying scales, along with the architects and clients involved, to explore how such amazing projects came to be in challenging circumstances. No one is pretending that creating new housing, arts institutions or civic centres is easy but somehow groups manage to coalesce and find a way to make their dreams become a reality.

In this conference, we will hear from grassroots organisations the length and breadth of the country and find out how they started initiatives that would forever change their communities, often without proper support from government or larger organisations. Architects can become great partners in such endeavours, using their skills in planning, design and construction to help guide fledgling groups take their first steps and navigate missteps and pitfalls.

The conference will feature a series of presentations and panels, located in the Oasis Farm Waterloo, designed by Feilden Fowles Architects. The barn itself is a meanwhile community project, demonstrating that it’s possible to use small parcels of land for local benefit even in central London.

There will be a drinks reception from 6-7pm after the presentations.
