York Beneath the Streets: A fortress city in the Roman empire

Wed 20 Mar 2024 1:15 PM - 2:00 PM G19, Faculty of Classics, CB3 9DA

Join Thomas Matthews Boehmer as he shines a light on the urban history of York (Eboracum), the most northerly provincial capital of the Roman Empire. By combining the results from new geophysics, recent excavations, and older investigations, this talk demonstrates how new stories are constantly emerging from beneath the tarmacadam of one of Britain's most touristed cities. This talk showcases some of the findings of Roman York Beneath the Streets, a three-year research project funded by the AHRC.
