Bob Chilcott conducts 'A Little Jazz Mass'
Sat 1 Jun 2024 8:00 PM - 9:30 PM
Worcester College Dining Hall, OX1 2HB
Description
Join Worcester College Choir for a 20th anniversary performance of Bob Chilcott's A Little Jazz Mass, conducted by the composer himself.
One of the most celebrated contemporary choral composers, Bob Chilcott has a long-held affinity with jazz. With a characterful accompaniment and a swinging rhythm, A Little Jazz Mass offers up the Latin Missa brevis as you've never heard it before. Performed across the world in both concerts and liturgical settings, including at St Paul's Cathedral, the piece was written for the 2004 Crescent City Choral Festival and premiered at St Louis Cathedral in New Orleans.
'Chilcott's is a remarkable achievement in that he has written music that is approachable but never sugary, and jazz-infused but in no way irreligious' - CHOIR & ORGAN
