William Morris (1834-1896) helped to introduce a new aesthetic into British interiors and his iconic designs are loved and instantly recognisable to this day. What isn't as well known is that Morrris had a deep connection to Islamic art, despite never travelling to the Islamic world. He collected pieces throughout his life and famously referred to Persia as a 'holy land for pattern designers'.
This session with Hassan Mahamdallie will explore Morris' remarkable life and output, not just as a designer, but as a socialist and activist and someone inspired by the East.
