Join Biosphere Artist in Residence Alice Dudley for a unique outdoor art workshop exploring sustainable creative practices through painting with plants and natural materials. Set within the beautiful surroundings of Milntown Gardens, you'll learn new techniques, experiment with natural pigments and media, and discover the joy of creating in nature.

Following the workshop, enjoy a guided walk through the gardens and woodland with our Manx Wildlife Trust Woodland Engagement Officer, deepening your connection with the natural world that inspires the creative process.

Spending time in nature and engaging in creativity are both proven ways to support wellbeing, reduce stress, and improve focus. Combining the two offers a powerful opportunity to slow down, reconnect, and explore new ways of seeing the world around you.

This workshop is suitable for both experienced artists and complete beginners. The focus is not on creating a perfect final piece, but on experimentation, curiosity, and enjoying the creative journey. Step outside your comfort zone, try something new, and experience the benefits of art and nature together in one inspiring afternoon.

Working alongside a small group of like-minded creatives, you will be able to:
β€’ Experiment with new techniques and media
β€’ Work outdoors, drawing inspiration directly from your surroundings
β€’ Learn how to make natural pigments using plants and flowers
β€’ Learn about anthotypes and make your own sustainable β€˜sun prints’ using plant-based materials and sunlight
β€’ Learn about local plant life on a guided walk led by Manx Wildlife Trust's Woodland Engagement Officer

Important Information:
β€’ Please wear/bring suitable clothing - taking part in the art workshop could get messy, so bring clothes you won’t mind getting paint on!
β€’ Please bring sensible footwear if you plan to join the guided walk.
β€’ Basic refreshments will be available, but it may be useful to bring your own
refreshments - and suncream if needed!
β€’ Please note that some of the activities offered in this workshop are weather-dependent, and poor weather conditions may result in the workshop being moved indoors
β€’ Please also note that plant-based pigments are light-sensitive, and the images created in the workshop may be susceptible to fading over time if left in direct light.

This workshop is kindly supported by Milntown Estate. The Biosphere Artist in Residency Scheme is hosted by Manx Wildlife Trust - supported by the Isle of Man Arts Council and in partnership with UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man and Culture Vannin.
