Wildlife Documentary Workshop: Tell Nature's Stories with Your Smartphone 🌿📱

Have you ever watched a wildlife documentary and wondered how those stories are made? This unique workshop invites young adults to step into the role of filmmaker and create their own short wildlife documentary on the beautiful Isle of Man.

You do not need expensive equipment or previous filming experience. Using a smartphone and your creativity, you'll learn how to capture the natural world around you and turn your observations into a compelling story.

Through a mix of exploration, filming and hands on practice, you'll discover how documentary makers work with limited resources to produce engaging films. You'll learn how to spot interesting wildlife behaviour, plan a story, film steady and effective footage, record natural sounds and edit everything together into a finished video.

During the workshop, you'll gain experience in:

🌿 Finding stories in nature and developing a documentary idea

📱 Filming wildlife using a smartphone and simple accessories

👀 Observing wildlife patiently and responsibly

🎥 Using camera angles, composition and movement to create engaging footage

🎙️ Capturing sound and narration to bring your story to life

Most importantly, you'll learn that great wildlife films are not about having the most expensive camera. They're about curiosity, patience, creativity and storytelling.

By the end of the workshop, you'll have created your own mini wildlife documentary and gained practical filmmaking skills that you can continue to use wherever you go. If you want to, we'll publish your film on Manx Wildlife Trust's socials.

Suitable for young adults of 16+ of all experience levels. No previous filmmaking experience required. This is a free event but booking is essential.
