Botanical Inks and Dyes Workshop with Nell
Join artist Nell Smith to make botanical inks from foraged plant materials and natural dye extracts. Discover the magic of adding modifiers to your inks to create a range of colours and use them to create a unique artwork.
Nell Smith is a printmaker and textile artist working from a studio at Hot Bed Press in Salford. In 2023, she conducted an 8 month research project into natural dyes and pigments for screen printing, funded by the Arts Council. Her recent collection of prints, ‘Chroma’, explores the changing seasons, using natural dyes found, foraged, and extracted from plants.
In this day-long workshop, you will get the chance to learn more about botanical dyes and pigments, forage for plant materials, make inks, work with dyed fabrics and make some inky artworks.
