“Gleefully idiosyncratic and as suspicious of mainstream success as the band and its fans” – RogerEbert.com

How do you make a movie about Pavement? “Slacker suburbanites form band and do a pretty good job without looking like they’re trying too hard.” Not very “kino.” Not terribly “cinema.” Enter Alex Ross Perry, the mumblecore maven behind The Color WheelListen Up Philip, and Her Smell, who cooked up a workaround to get the enduringly popular indie icons on the silver screen - part banging juke-box rock doc, mostly sensational made-up bullshit: Pavement the reunion tour! Pavement the musical! Pavement the movie! Pavement the museum! What’s real and what isn’t? It’s not really important. What is important is Pavement, the most important band in the history of the world. Plugged-in enough for the hardcore, and funny enough for newcomers, PAVEMENTS captures what’s at the heart of the group’s enduring appeal: insincere whimsy, bratty sentimentalism, noisy melodies, a good deal of nonsense. (2025, Not Rated, 2hr08min)

THE PROGRAM ALSO INCLUDES: Pre Show DJ set & vinyl sales from THANKS FOR LISTENING, the premier spot for Virginia Beach’s discerning record runners.

Short Film: MOUNT VERNON & FAIRWAY: A FAIRY TALE BY THE BEACH BOYS (2024, 12min) - An animated rendition of Brian Wilson’s short-form fairy tale about a little boy who discovers a magic radio that takes him and his friends on a wild trip through the night. Directed by Phill Skokos, Edel Ferri.

Presented by FILM BREAK SOCIETY, a nonprofit organization dedicated to big screen presentations of classic films and under-the-radar contemporaries.
