Join us for a hands-on introduction to bryophytes, led by expert ecologist and bryologist Dr Joanne Denyer. With almost 800 bryophyte species recorded in Ireland, this workshop will focus on a small selection of the most common and easily spotted mosses and liverworts, giving beginners a hands-on introduction to the world of this non-vascular plant group.
The day will begin with an indoor session exploring bryophyte ecology: where they grow, the habitats they are found in, and the main characteristics used to recognise and tell them apart. Joanne will then lead a guided field session in Glencree, giving you the chance to put your new knowledge into practice. The workshop will be relaxed, practical, and supportive, helping you build confidence in recognising mosses and liverworts in the field.
