This workshop will introduce you to Ireland’s True Bugs (Heteroptera), with a particular focus on shieldbugs. Supported by Meath County Council and Led by Brian Nelson, the session will explore the diversity, ecology, and biology of this large insect group, highlighting the key characteristics used to identify different families and species.
You will learn how to recognise the distinctive features of true bugs, namely shieldbugs and develop practical identification skills using field guides. Depending on the weather, the workshop will then move to Girley Bog, Co. Meath, for guided fieldwork, providing an opportunity to put your new knowledge into practice.
This relaxed, hands-on session is designed to build confidence in identifying and recording shieldbugs while providing a broader introduction to the remarkable diversity of Ireland’s True Bugs.
