[Home] Going
A home remembers what time forgets...
Twelve-year-old Presence is determined to break a curse that began long before she was born. For generations, “the sadness” has plagued her family. When the forced sale of their ancestral home on the Carolina Sea Islands triggers her mother’s latest mental breakdown, Presence searches for answers in the past. Entering a dreamworld where time and space dissolve, she journeys back to Reconstruction-era South Carolina to confront her forefather, Ernest, and untangle the history unraveling her mother. From award-winning playwright Zola Dee, [Home] Going is a spellbinding radio play about the pain we inherit, the love we carry and the search for hope across generations.

Public Presentations are scaled-back productions designed to center the creative process of development, giving our playwrights in residence the opportunity to dream without the pressures of criticism. Presented as a radio play, [Home] Going puts the playwright’s words and voice at the forefront, with sound and story leading the way. The goal is to provide a unique opportunity for the playwright to be in the lead and for NBT to generate a creative process that allows their soul to be deeply reflected.
