NHLS Championship 2026

The ultimate demonstration of hedgelaying skills at the 2026 National Hedgelaying Championship!

Every year, the best hedgelayers in the country gather together to test their skills against each other and extend the healthy life of a classic country hedge.  For 5 hours they cut, crop and weave the hedge in fascinating fashion to rejuvenate it for healthy bushy growth in the next growing season and for years to come.

Come along and enjoy a day in the country learning about this important heritage skill. Entry costs £10 for adults on the day, but can be bought here and now for the special price of £8.  Children, well behaved dogs on a lead and National Hedgelaying Society members are free.

Hedgelaying has a long history as an essential countryside activity and is still relevant today in keeping our quintessentially  British hedgerows in good condition. A properly managed hedge is a thing of beauty, a shelter, travel corridor and food source for wildlife, provides shelter and shade for farmstock, while helping prevent flooding and soil erosion and sequestering carbon.
