Firestone Bay Coastal Clean Up
Tue 18 Feb 2025 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM
Firestone Bay, PL1 3RS
Description
Firestone Bay is a crucial part of Plymouth's history, culture and future, and is right on the shores of the UK's first National Marine Park. These iconic heritage sites aren’t just a spot on the map; they’re a living testament to Plymouth's rich culture. But, like any gem, it needs a bit of polishing now and then. That's where you come in!
During our coastal clean we'll be undertaking a simple litter survey; recording what we find and sending off the data to Marine Conservation Society's Citizen Science project: BeachWatch. This litter data helps inform campaigns and lobby government, and has led to influential changes like the UK-wide carrier bag charge, microbead bans and changes to wet wipe packaging.
Whether you're a seasoned volunteer or just dipping your toes into community action, there's a spot for you. Come and help make the foreshore a healthy place to live for all creatures whether human or marine and learn about some of the biggest threats facing the marine environment from pollution and plastic. We will provide tea, coffee and biscuits after!
You will need appropriate clothing and footwear (we recommend walking boots or wellies) for weather and a phone.
There are available public toilets close by (with a charge). Moderate accessibility will be required for this event as there are steps down to the beach.
Location: Firestone Bay beach (What3Words: ///gear.crowd.facing)
Please note: this event is subject to a 24 hour cancellation period in bad weather conditions.
