Blagdon's Meadow Coastal Clean Up
Blagdon's Meadow borders the intertidal River Plym, an important ecosystem supporting an abundance of wildlife including wading birds, marine life and maybe even a seal or two! Unfortunately, it is exposed to a lot of litter brought in by the recurring tides and the nearby recycling centre, making this habitat vulnerable to harm and pollution. Can you help us keep this important site clean and protected whilst also contributing to vital data collection used to drive change?
During our coastal clean we'll be undertaking a simple litter survey; recording what we find and sending off the data to Marine Conservation Society's Citizen Science project: BeachWatch. This litter data helps inform campaigns and lobby government, and has led to influential changes like the UK-wide carrier bag charge, microbead bans and changes to wet wipe packaging.
Whether you're a seasoned volunteer or just dipping your toes into community action, there's a spot for you. Come and help make the foreshore a healthy place to live for all creatures whether human or marine and learn about some of the biggest threats facing the marine environment from pollution and plastic. We will provide tea, coffee and biscuits after!
We will meet at Blagdon's Meadows Car Park 13:00.
You will need appropriate clothing and footwear (we recommend walking boots or wellies) for weather.
