Big Seaweed Search - National Marine Park Rangers at Barn Pool beach

Community Science / Citizen Science! This term means to collect data on the natural world for scientists, these projects are fun and very accessible with little to no prior knowledge needed (RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch is an example). For this event we will run a fun training session where we will teach you the basics of the big seaweed search, along with history, uses and importance of seaweed. At the same time we will be recording data and looking out for invasive species (a non-native species which causes harm to the local environment). You don’t have to have been to any citizen science events before to get involved. From seaweed expert to beginner, anyone is welcome to come and learn!

We will meet next to the picnic benches on barn pool beach (What 3 Words ///noted.areas.senses). Look for the 'Plymouth Sound National Marine Park' flags set up on the beach.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

• We will start the event at 11:00 so please make sure you are on the beach for 11:00
• Appropriate clothing is a must (Rain jacket and warm clothes) and footwear (boots, wellies or something you don't mind getting wet with good grip is advisable).
• The Cremyll ferry is the best way to easily get to this site from Plymouth, but if you need to drive, there is a Pay and display car park here: ///sits.itself.region
• There are public toilets available in the Orangery 5 minute walk away from the site.
  
• You will need to have a good level of mobility to get around the rock pools.
• refreshments are available at local cafes.
